PV Symphonic Band Concert
The Palos Verdes Symphonic Band will present a late afternoon of delightful music at 5 p.m. at the South Coast Botanic Garden, 26300 Crenshaw Boulevard in the Palos Verdes Peninsula. It will be performed at the upper meadow. This 50 piece symphonic band is under the direction of David Stanton and consists of local musicians who wish to bring you the best of concert band music. This concert is titled ?Picnic N? Pops? and will include march, big band, Broadway, Latin, and classic Gershwin favorites. Tickets are only $7 each, with free admission for children 12 years of age and under. Tickets are available at the Botanic Garden just prior to concert time. Portuguese Bend National Horse Show

The weekend of September 9, 10 and 11 marks the return of the Portuguese Bend National Horse Show to Ernie Howlett Park, 25851 Hawthorne Blvd., Rolling Hills Estates. The Peninsula Committee Children?s Hospital will present the equestrian event as a means of raising money to fund the Clinical Imagine Research Center at Children?s Hospital Los Angeles. Two riding rings are fully scheduled all 3 days offering a wide variety of special events. The $10,000 Seahorse Jumper Classic will challenge some of the West Coast?s finest Jumper riders over a difficult and exciting course. This show is clearly the most popular three day event of its kind in the West, and is the site of the Pacific Coast Horse Show Medals Finals. An atmosphere of hometown fun is created through the d?cor and booths. Puppet shows, pony rides, games, moon bounce and face painting are popular activities in the Children?s Circle along with special events every day. Food booths entice the crowds with items for breakfast, lunch and snacks. Riding events begin at 7:30 a.m. each day. Friday, all ages are free. Country Day?s 50th

The 50th Anniversary Homecoming Celebration will be held from 11 a.m. ? 4 p.m. at the Rolling Hills Country Day School campus. Harbor Interfaith Services Benefit

The fourth annual fall gala to benefit Harbor Interfaith Services, a San Pedro-based nonprofit that serves 15,000 homeless and working poor people each year will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Redondo Beach The event, produced by the South Bay Auxiliary for Harbor Interfaith Services at 6 pm features dinner, dancing and a live and silent auction. This year?s theme, ?Work in Progress?, was selected because Harbor Interfaith Services is in the process of constructing its three-story Family Resource Center to expand and improve its services. Proceeds from the event will benefit the agency?s programs, including an emergency family shelter, transitional housing, after-school care, childcare and a food pantry.
