What is K-12 Education?
Primary and secondary education is called K-12 Education. The K stands for kindergarten and 12 for 12th grade. It covers the years from kindergarten through 12th grade. It includes kindergarten, primary, secondary, high ?school and pre-university education in India.
K-12 Education in India The K-12 education system in India is slowly getting recognition and gaining importance. The government also has been taking active interest and promoting K-12 education. In an effort to promote K-12 education, the government has made primary education compulsory and free throughout the country.
The schools in India are also taking interest towards improving the education system in India. Many schools are using creative methods of teaching to help students remember the different aspects of different subjects.
Teachers are making learning in the classroom as interactive as possible. They encourage Q and A sessions and group discussions. Students are given assignments so that they can research and find out about the subjects on their own. Sometimes they are made the teachers in the classrooms and are asked to explain certain aspects of the subjects to the entire class. As a result of all of this, children are able to remember and recollect what is taught in class easily. Teachers guide the students in studies rather than feed them with notes and answers.A lot of importance is given to individual attention to students today. The role of the teacher is slowly changing in the classroom environment. The teacher is moving from imparting knowledge to facilitating learning. This makes students understand what they study.
They don?t just remember answers. Many concepts self-managed-learning, learner-constructed-learning, collaborative learning and research are gaining importance. This helps to build the student?s confidence.Schools today encourage students to participate in different competitions and forums. This enables them to learn more than what is taught in classrooms and textbooks. Importance is given to the use of study aids and other tools of learning like educational CDs to gain a wider perspective of the subject.
The education system in India has come a long way. The teaching styles and the syllabus has also improved a lot. The child?s aptitude and capabilities is given a lot of importance these days. Though many schools are yet to accepts these methods of teaching, the growth and improvement of the education system in the country has increased a lot of hope among educationists.
