Finding Genuine Schwinn Bike Parts

Refurbishing and restoring old bikes has become a passion for a number of cycling enthusiasts. These undertakings are often done with a lot of love and care. Finding these rusted, tireless bicycles and being able to picture what they looked like when they were new is a true art. Old vintage Schwinn bikes are one brand of bike that has captured many of these collectors and finding genuine Schwinn bike parts to refurbish them is important to them.

But it doesn?t really matter which brand of bike you choose to work on or restore, getting and using the proper parts is very important. Often these old bikes are found in basements, garages, attics or barns and most of us just see a pile of rust but these collectors see a way of bringing new life into these old gems.

Now I feel that even if you?re working on a fairly new bike finding the right or matching parts is important unless of course you don?t mind how the bike rides.

Or maybe your purposely trying to create a work of art rather than a bike to ride.

For the most part though there are two major reasons for fixing up a bike. You want to ride it or you want to restore it to its original glory and then ride is for pleasure.

When you start looking for parts for your Schwinn bike one of the things that is helpful to know is the year it was made. If you don?t know you need to find that out. It is a must for finding the correct replacement parts for it. In order to figure out the year your bike was manufactured you need to find the serial number.

It is the easiest way of identifying when and sometimes where a bike was manufactured. On older Schwinn bikes the serial number was stamped on the end of the left fork of the bike. Then in the early 1970?s the serial number was put on the head tube somewhere close to the head badge or sometimes on some models they put it on the bottom bracket. This number will give you information on when the bike was built and that will help you find the right parts for your bike.

Finding vintage bike parts for most people who are looking for them is a lot easier when you shop online. You can do a quick Google search for vintage bikes stores online and there are a few of them. Or another popular choice is doing a search on eBay. If you really want new bike parts in the sense they were never used but original parts then your search is certainly going to be a lot more difficult. Finding new old stock parts possibly could be found at a liquidator or even a very old bicycle shop but that is asking a lot.

Schwinn Bikes remains one of the most recognized brands in cycling in North America. They have been around for years and they one reason they are so popular is they were North American built. Finding good Schwinn bike parts is the only way you are ever going to be able to change that pile of rust into the classic it used to be.
