New Texas Tech football coach Kliff Kingsbury has hired Texas A&M linebackers coach Matt Wallerstedt as defensive coordinator, the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported.
Kingsbury and Wallerstedt worked together last season at A&M.
Wallerstedt, Tech?s fifth defensive coordinator in five seasons, previously worked as a coordinator at Air Force, North Alabama and Wyoming. He has also worked as linebackers and special teams coach at Kansas State, his alma mater, and at Akron as associate head coach.
Hiring a coaching veteran and defensive expert could be Kingsbury?s means of evening out his offensive background and inexperience as a rookie head coach.
A&M has now lost three assistants from last season?s staff.
