NBA: Lakers to have Prime-time coverage for one night

With an assist from the Clippers, Lakers fans can get a Kobe-Nash-Howard fix during game-action tonight.

While there is no movement in the negotiation process that could deliver Time Warner Cable SportsNet to any other customer outside of the Time Warner Cable reach, the Lakers-Clippers exhibition game from Staples Center will go as planned on Prime Ticket, the Clippers' home channel.

DirecTV spokesman Bob Mercer reiterated Tuesday there was nothing new to report and the company was "still in active discussions with (Time Warner) on how to make the new network available in a way that's affordable for all of our local customers."

Fox Sports San Diego will also have the game available to San Diego customers - at least, those who have the channel.

Time Warner Cable is one of several that has not worked out a carriage deal. DirecTV, however, has FSSD - but not TWC SportsNet, or the Pac-12 Network, for that matter.

When the Lakers face Sacramento for an exhibition game Thursday at the Valley View Casino Arena in San Diego (formerly known as the San Diego Sports Arena), those with Cox Cable or DirecTV (the two main providers in San Diego) are still likely to be without SportsNet access.

Those who have thought they could find games on NBA TV that included the Lakers will discover them to be blacked out in the L.A. area.
