The beginning to a healthier you

This past weekend, community members and wellness organizations came together in helping to improve the health of Hernando County. The Hernando Health Experience is a program of the Hernando County Parks and Recreation Department and an initiative of the Hernando County Childhood Obesity Taskforce.
Everyone is welcome to join. Those who donate $35 toward the cause are eligible to win up to $1000 at the end of the 12-week program for improving their health.
Two local wellness professionals, Herson and Kim Garcia, helped create the program and provide educational support to all registered participants as they launch into their journey of better health.
"The goal of the Health Experience is to bring all wellness organizations in the community together to help reduce chronic disease and support residents who are looking to achieve better health," said Kim.
"With a struggling economy and misleading marketing for rapid weight loss," Kim added, "it's difficult for individuals and families to know how to get healthy or where to invest their money trying to get healthy."
The Hernando County Parks & Recreation Department hopes all community members will get behind this self funded program designed to support all involved. All wellness professionals are welcome to offer outreach for this event.
"We are attempting to teach each person ways to make small lifestyle changes and motivate them to get into their local gym or wellness facility to proactively take care of their body," Kim said.
It is all about small steps and consistency, she added.
To help support the efforts of our community members, Hernando Today will feature weekly tips provided to the Health Experience participants in the Thursday Health and Fitness section and online at HernandoToday.com, look for the Hernando Health Experience logo for the tip of the week.
